World’s first bitcoin – palm wine transaction
We’ve quietly rolled out our new cryptocurrency payment feature and are excited to announce that we’re now accepting 4 major cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, and Litecoin. Ikenga Wines made history by performing the worlds’ first palm wine-cryptocurrency transaction!!!
Palm wine has been around for millennia but it hasn’t changed much in thousands of years. When you are off the beaten path, traditional palm wine can still be found and enjoyed fresh. However, as you might have figured out by now, Ikenga Wines is about embracing new ways of doing things and changing the way palm wine is made. We aim to make the best wines possible using the tools that are shaping the future of global production. The same is true for other aspects of our company- including methods of payment.
Crypto-curiosities…
Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum have been in the headlines for their growth and potential in the global economy. Maybe you’re asking yourself: beyond wine, what can I use them for? Ethereum has been the most noteworthy currency in 2021- enabling new forms of selling digital art through NFT’s, or non-fungible tokens. Christies has auctioned off NFT works for Millions (of USD) and even the NBA is minting their own NFT digital trading cards. As for bitcoin, Tesla is now accepting bitcoin payments for their vehicles and a number of other luxury companies will soon follow suit.
Bitcoin, and the broader decentralized finance (DeFi) movement, are part of the future we are excited to build. These currencies are the first fully digital currencies and don’t even require exchanging when you travel or purchase from another country. It isn’t just the US that is curious about crypto, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa are 3 of the top 5 countries asking about bitcoin. We’re here for all of it!
What’s the difference between the cryptocurrencies?
We’ve all heard about bitcoin before. It’s the oldest and most popular cryptocurrency, that has a pre-determined supply and acts as a decentralized ledger for all the transactions that occur. You can think of this like a giant checkbook with everyone asking each other if we have the same answer. Bitcoin cash is a split from the original bitcoin and has the benefit of being able to perform transactions quicker and more energy efficiently. Similarly, Litecoin is another currency that strives to make transactions quicker and cheaper than bitcoin. Smart contracts can be made using Ethereum, to sell items like digital art.
