Over the summer our Winemaker joined other innovators at the Biofabricate 2022 Summit. This event was a wonderful exploration of the range of innovative approaches to producing and designing products that consider both function and the environment. Onye Ahanotu introduced his ideas around where Ikenga Wines fits in to the bio/design conversation:
Summit Favorites
The summit included a design lab, our wine tasting and discussions with though leaders. Some of our favorites were:
Twelve – making stylish sunglasses out of recycled CO2 emissions.
Ecovative – using architected mycelium to create sustainable packaging material and fillers.
Around the World in 80 Fabrics – a National Geographic project to archive and understand the diversity in fabrics. “From the wisdom of indigenous cultures to cutting edge innovations in recycling and bio fabrication, we celebrate the diversity of nature-friendly alternatives to fast fashion fabrics.”
Yuima Nakazato’s AW 21/22 EVOKE – Japanese designer’s haute couture collection featuring garments made from Spiber’s Brewed Protein materials, similar to spider silk.
